It was a cold and blustery
day when we drove through American Corner. My plans were to photograph
my grandfather's house that I lived in as a young boy here, and then find
the old "DAFFIN HOUSE" along Tuckahoe Road near Hillsboro, but the piled
up snow along the narrow road prevented me from pulling over. This was
right after the Blizzard at the end of January, 2000.
Driving further down Auction
Road from American Corner we came to where CHARLES DICKINSON is buried
, Wiltshire Manor. My memory of this day is not very good, but apparently,
I drove on to the intersection of Auction Rd. and Harmony Rd. (Rt. 16)
and made a left turn intending to turn around and go back to the Dickinson
gravesite. As I turned onto to Harmony Road we noticed a small cemetery
and a dirt road along it (I think it was Collins Road). We could
not resist walking through it and checking the headstones!
Many thanks to Jane Garrett
Whomsley, a member of the Upper Shore Genealogical Society, for the information
about this cemetery and where I actually was! |
