George Daffin 1797
In the name of God Amen I
George Daffin of the County of Hallifax and State of North Carolina being
sick and weak in body; but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God
and as life is uncertain I make and ordain this to be my last will and
testament, My Soul I commence into the hands of God that gave it in hope
of the resurrection and my body to the earth to be decently buried. As
to my wordily goods, I give and bequeath in the following manner.
Inpremis: I tend(or lend)
unto my beloved wife Peggy Daffin during her natural life, one young-------
Mare, two cows and calves, all my hogs and all my House Hold furniture
(except for on small bed) the same to be returned to my daughter Dolly
after my wife’s death.
Item I give unto Peggy Josey
one bed and furniture.
Item I give to be sold at
Public sale one mare with foal, one colt and the remaining part of my stock
of cattle and if there is any part of the property I have lent to my wife
that she does not stand in need of, to be sold a the same time and the
money thence arising to pay my just debts,
Item I give to my beloved
wife twenty barrels of corn ale, the fodder in the barn and one stack of
blades also all the meat I have laid up for the years provision.
Item I empower my executor
to collect all monies due to me with what I now have and with the same
purchase a Negro girl for my daughter Dolly and the said Negro I give and
bequeath unto my daughter Dolly Daffin and all my estate of what ----------
kind to her and her heirs forever.
Item I appoint my friend
John Bell sole executor to this my last will and testament and invest him
with full power to execute the same as possibleto the foregoing legacy
revoked----nulling every other former will and acknowledge this to be my
last will and testament. In witness I set my hand to seal this 14th day
of January 1797.
