Notes for EMMIE CECELIA WHATLEY:
 

Emmie(called Bampa) helped raise Mary Francis and Charles Horton(oldest grandchildren ). She was killed crossing the street after church service. Dorothy and Diane,who were her other younger grand-daughters (abt 14  or 15 years old) had escorted her to the street curb where she normally crossed to go home, lived just a few blocks form First Baptist Church in Waco, tx. They turned to go back to their parents who were waiting just outside the church doors..
A Baylor student had come around the corner too fast and did not see her. He was unable to stop in time and struck her. She was thrown about 90 feet and died of multiple  fractures and a cerebral hemorhage at Hilcrest Baptist Hospital. Article about accident can be found in Waco Tribune Herald,   dated Jan 18, 1955.
