I would like to thank all the folks that took the time to write me regarding the Blue Hen Ramblers. Most were family  of the different members of the Ramblers.
I understand that the Blue hen ramblers were first formed as early as the 1930's by the founder, Albert Steele and performed with various band members at least into the 1950s.
Regretably, Abert Steele passed away in June of 2007 at the age of 94. His wife, Mildred Catherine (Mumford) Steele passed away on April 26, 2005.
Both Albert and Mildred were instrumental in forming the Blue Hen Ramblers.
The "Blue Hen" is, of course, the State Bird of Delaware where the band was based.
Some others who played in the Ramblers over the years were Milton Steele (Albert's brother,   Steve Chike, Elizabeth Philips, Virgil Hurd, Virginia MetrovichEleanor Lowman and Louise  Lowman.  There were probably some more members through the years.

I would really enjoy any more photographs or stories from anybody. Some email I have received from from children and grandchildren of the Ramblers members mention old tapes that exist, maybe rehearsal tapes. If anybody has any that could possibly be copied it would be nice to hear them!

Back Row Standing: Ray Reed, Barney Sheppard, Albert Steele (founder), and Bill Lewis.
Front Row Kneeling: Edie Sheppard, Norma Jeanne Reed, and Emma Jean Daffin.

The above photo was taken in 1946. My mother, Emma Jean Daffin, was about 19 years old.

I have 4 more photographs which can be viewed by clicking on the small pictures below.

My Aunt remembers that my mother's "theme song" with the Blue Hen Ramblers was Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain. She also told me that Mel Price would have her come on stage to sing at his music events and the song he had her sing was Hank Williams' If You Got The Money, Honey, I Got The Time

Mel Price and The Santa Fe Rangers...
